Hello everybody!

I'm new here and first I want greet everybody. I'm Balazs Jahn from
Hungary. I
have learnt English for 1 and half year, so my English isn't verery good.
Sorry.
I have learnt programming PIC microcontrollers for 1 year.

I want use my Microsoft basic optical mouse (USB/PS2) via PS2 with a
PIC16F877
microprocessor. I can send and recieve datas, and it is working good,
but as an
ordinary mouse and not as Microsoft scrolling mouse. So at the moment
I can't
use the mouse's scrolling wheel. I found the most information about
the PS/2
mouse interfacing on the http://www.computer-
engineering.org/ps2mouse/ site.

How can I tell to the mouse, behave as Microsoft scrolling mouse?

Thanks for your help.

Balazs

Welcome Jahn. Your English is very good, and is much better than my
Hungarian.

You should be able to see some messages come from the mouse when you move
the scroll wheel. I don't know what messages the mouse sends, but this web
link looks like it may have useful information on some of its links.

Best of luck.

I think it's excellent after only 1 and a half years study!

http://www.mit.edu/people/gassend/protocols/intellimouse/ gives a
brief decription of the scroll protocol.

Hope it's of help,

Dan

www.computer-engineering.org/ps2mouse/ also has information on the
PS/2 mouse protocol, including the Intellimouse extensions.

Alan, Dan,

First I tought M$ only tets the device, therefore sends "Reset
Command" to the mouse three times:

Power-on Reset:
Mouse: AA  Self-test passed
Mouse: 00  Mouse ID
Host:  FF  Reset command
Mouse: FA  Acknowledge
Mouse: AA  Self-test passed
Mouse: 00  Mouse ID
Host:  FF  Reset command
Mouse: FA  Acknowledge
Mouse: AA  Self-test passed
Mouse: 00  Mouse ID
Host:  FF  Reset command
Mouse: FA  Acknowledge
Mouse: AA  Self-test passed
Mouse: 00  Mouse ID
...

and Set Sample Rate 3 times again :-)

But on the http://www.mit.edu/people/gassend/protocols/intellimouse/
site was the same method.

Ok thanks for your help, I go home and I will check it.

Have a nice day. (??) I don't know what time is it at your home, but
here is 2 o'clock P.M.

Balazs
