Picers,

I just installed MPLAB 8. Here's a new snag, for me anyway.

I tried compiling their totally basic template file and keep getting an error
message that says "org 04 can't fit between org 00 & main", apparently.

Like so -->

Error - section '.org_1' can not fit the absolute section. Section '.org_1'
start=0x00000004, length=0x00000006 Errors    : 1 Link step failed.
BUILD FAILED: Wed Feb 20 21:24:06 2008

list      p=16F84                     ; list directive to define processor
       #include <p16F84.inc>         ; processor specific variable definitions

       __CONFIG   _CP_OFF & _WDT_ON & _PWRTE_ON & _RC_OSC

       ORG     0x000                 ; processor reset vector
                 goto    main          ; go to beginning of program

       ORG     0x004             ; interrupt vector location
;        movwf   w_temp            ; save off current W register contents
;        movf        STATUS,w          ; move status register into W register
;        movwf        status_temp       ; save off contents of STATUS register

main

; remaining code goes here
nop
nop
nop
               END

Huh? What does '.org_1' can not fit the absolute section.' mean? How can it not
fit? There's nuthin' in between ...

Thanks if can help - dumb question.  :(

Debbie

Hi Debbie!

I think that you try to build an absolute project with a linker. Please
delete 16f84.lkr file from your project and try again.

This all sounds like you are using an absolute address assembly template,
and attempting to use it with the linker. This doesn't work, you should use
the linkable module template files.

For the best examples, look at Olins development environment files at
http://www.embedinc.com/pic/ and see how he does the linkable modules. The
other nicety of using his environment is that it is easy to set it up for
different processors.
