I use ULN2803 to drive inductive loads using a pic processor. I also use
a common +12 Volt supply. I am very fussy about grounds and using the
suppression diodes in the ULN2803s. I also use a 1N4007 at the inductor.
For 110 and 220VAC loads I use the ULN2803 tied to a solid state switch
with optical isolation built in. I don't have transient problems.
