It is possible, but you will find that using a MMC card will be *much*
easier as it uses SPI.  It also uses just a few pins.

I've not done anything like this myself, but a quick google search for
"spi pic mmc" brings up several useful results.

This one in particular appears to be quite thorough. The code samples
given are written in C, to be compiled with CC5X, but I'm sure you can
look through them to get the basics, and rewrite it in whatever
language you are using.

Good luck.

I interfaced to a CF card with a 16F877.

Thank you.

That's a tough question. I didn't work on it 24/7, and I'm not exactly
certain when I started. I'd say though that it probably took over a
year.

> Did you do all your self?

Yup.

> Do you use emulator?

Emulator? No. If you mean ICD2 (in circuit debugging) that would also me
a no (didn't have an ICD2 at that time).

All my debugging was done with my logic analyzer
( http://repatch.dyndns.org:8383/pic_stuff/logan ) and printf statements
out a serial port.
