Can any of you recommend a specific component for the 6-pin RJ12 jack that connects to the PIC ICD2 debugger (manufacturer & part#). I need a PCB mounted one (through hole or SMD).  There seems to be many options: positions, contacts loaded, contacts per port, # of ports. I am not sure if "modular jack" refers to RJ-11 or RJ-12. I know the ICD requires an RJ-12. Thanks

I am not sure whether you are using this for a product
or prototype. But you can use a connector in this
picture below.

Yep. AMP/Tyco makes a quality mate (AMP#5555163-1), Digikey # A31420-ND.
They have a slightly faded PDF of the footprint, too at DK.

It looks like that particular connector is out of stock. I used the AMP's
555165-1, which Digikey has 7161 of. It's the same connector found in
Eagle's con-amp.lbr.

AFAIK, the difference b/w an RJ-11 and RJ-12 is the footprint. RJ-11 can
have a maximum of four contacts, and RJ-12 can have six. Mechanically, they
seem to be identical (you can plug an RJ-11 into an RJ-12). Perhaps someone
knows for sure?

Best regards,

Vitaliy

Yes RJ12 and RJ11 are compatible. Just the pin number
difference.
