You'll have to use Microchip products. Just fill in one formular (application for a sublicense) and fax it to Microchip. After your application have been processed and approved you'll get a VID/PID (VID,Microchip). IIRC it must be for a specific product from the hardware manufacturer, and for a specific product of the customer, and it is one PID, not a block of PIDs. I read that FTDI (manufacturer of FT232RL etc.) is also willing to provide a PID in this way. What I do not know (but would like to hear from first hand) is how easy this process is in practice. If it is easy, I can add this info to my shop as alternative to the PID blocks I used to sell.
