Hello Does anyone know where I can get stock of the PIC18F452 chips in the UK? Either DIP40 or PLCC would be fine. Microchip UK will not sell direct, and their regstered stockists have mostly not even heard of it yet! I have also ordered the PIC18F452 Processor module (PCM18XC1) for the MPLAB ICE2000 - will take at least 1 month - probably more! Thanks for that. My Warp-13a s/w (latest version downloaded from Newfound website http://www.newfoundelectronics.com/ ) shows the 452 as a valid target - and the newfound website says "coming soon" for 452 support - one of them is right! (Don't suppose it matters yet if I cant get the silicon!) But I will try and see if Pioneer will export some - or see if Microchip UK has any samples in the meantime. Although the WARP-13 desktop software may include the 452 as a target, the firmware on the WARP-13 unit does not support the PIC18F series. The latest firmware released in lae April, '02 is "RedBack 8" which among other things fixes a problem with the PIC16F628. My understanding is that support for the PIC18F will require a new controller PIC for the WARP-13 unit. Newfound has termed this firmware BluePole. This will be an upgrade (that is, it costs money). I think that the PICStart Plus has much the same problem. My understanding is the Microchip approach is an adaptor that plugs into the PIC Start ZIF socket. Right now, the only technique I know of for programming the PIC18F series is the Microchip ICD 2. This is Microchip Part DV164007 or similar. Peter, Tech Tools new QuickWriter will support 18Fx devices via a free update to the fuse config file (expected any day...). This is a new design and not based on the earlier Parallax/PicWriter programmer. It will take hex files from Tech Tools/CVASM or standard files from MPASM, etc. They retained the 26-pin header so all the adapters are compatible and you can easily make your own. I bought one a couple of months ago and I've been real happy with it. I had been using the previous version for about 7 years. They also support gang programming as well as ICSP with an included cable. Lot's of other new features. I have always found their adverts in the magazines to show more devices then the web page.
