'[PIC]:ICD2 for 16F series?'

I read in some past posts that the original ICD-1 will not work with the new MPLAB software.  But in the digikey catalog it just mentions the 18F series for the newer ICD-2. Will it work with everything below it (ie...16F87x types)?

Also what was the thread about the Picstart+ upgrade...can someone point me to that discussion?  I have a Picstart+ but i havent upgraded it for a while

thanks
JJ

The ICD2 supports the 16F87x range (including 'A' revisions).

The Picstart upgrade is part number UK003010 and is available through
http://buy.microchip.com at $29.00

Mike

Hi Jamie,

For the latest skinny on which devices the Microchip ICD 2 supports,
download the MPLAB v6.41 README file:

www.microchip.com/1010/pline/tools/picmicro/devenv/mplabi/mplab6/109
91/index.htm

Look for the readme files related to the ICD 2 and PICSTART Plus.
Obviously, this will only be valid until the next release of MPLAB which I
heard is due out very soon.

Remember if the URL gets word-wrapped, you'll have to sew it back together
in your browser.

Best regards,

Ken Pergola

The ICD2 works for more than just the 18F, series, and certainly
supports quite a large number of 16F devices. Careful reading of the
latest ICD-2 firmware release notes is required however, since some
devices are supported for programming only (not debugging), and some
devices are supported for debugging only when using a special 'debugging
variant' of the 16F device in question.
