'[PIC]:Building programmer for 18F'

I started to build a programmer(hardware) designed for the 18F series chips.   I have all the vlotage correct but am haveing a bit of a problem.
I can send the serial commands to the chip in program mode and get read information correctly.   However I cant write any information to the chip.  Im pretty sure the configuration bits are set correctly as I have set them with another programmer.

Depending on how the configuration bits are already set, you can't just
"set" them to any arbitrary state.  The only way to guarantee all the
configuration bits can be set is to start with a complete bulk erase of
the part.  This is what I do in my programmer, and it works fine.

They *can* be programmed, so you are obviously doing something wrong.
You might have a look at the Wisp628 firmware code
(http://www.voti.nl/wisp628).

Is the firmware source code part of the PC software download?   I cant find
a link to the firmware source.

it is way down on the page, under 'downloads'. Anyway, the link is
http://www.voti.nl/wisp628/wisp628.jal

I found it.   Looked at the code.   Looks like im doing the same thing as
you did.   Its a real funny problem.

when I send the codes to read the eeprom I get all the values correctly.
However when I read a memory location I always get zero's   Its as though
the initial nemonics for setting the address are not correct for some
reason.   Im pretty sure thats why my writes are not working cause you have
to set a value the 3c 00  04 address.   And its not working.

When all is said and done its probably something stupid that Im doing and I
cant see the forest for the trees....

This smells like code protection is enabled in the config bits.

I got part of the problem solved.   It was an inproper chip reset (program
voltage not dropping to zero)
I now can read the chip consistanly.   I can point to any eeprom address and
read the value.  I can also read program memory  values as well.   But I can
not change the address vallues to take by setting the TBPTRL,TBPTRH, and
TBPTRL registers.  I alwasy get memory locations starting at 0

This is prob why I cant program as well cause I cant set values to certain
address.  Hence I cant bulkerase.

Im using the proggraming data sheet and there examples but still no go.
Even looking at your code looks like Im doing the same thing you are.  But
just cant change the address pointers.

Any Ideas?
