I have to write a whole poetry on a 20x4 LCD, NEC02070AA module; its
HD44780 compatible but I haven't any datasheet for it.
After some button commands I need to revert ( white on black ) the
character appearance on the LCD for some long words. This is memory and
hardware consumer.I need to do it with the minimum memory consuming and
just now, I don't know how.
Defining new characters is probably out of the questions.
Reading CGRAM, revert the content and writting again is the only way ?

thank you,
Vasile

You can't reverse-out characters on a 44780 type display, other than
by using the CG Ram, but this is limited to 8 characters, so you could
only reverse-out words with 8 or fewer different letters.

Most write operations to the screen take 40us, the two exceptions
being 1.64ms for DD=0 and 1.64ms for Clear. You should be able
to refresh the screen with new CG quite frequently, but whether it's
convincing or not will depend on the persistence of the previous CG.
You could make some speed of refresh improvements by using the
40us Busy period to prepare data for transfer

You can't. CGRAM does not exist, except for 8 custom characters.
