'[PIC]: newbie question - multiple timers on a 16f8'

hi all

i'm starting using the PIC micro, and i'd need some inputs about
creating 2 different timers on a 16f84.

concrete case is:

i have 2 inputs: when i activate an input, i wanna have a pulse on a
related output.
i could use a software delay for 1 input/output line, but i'd need to
use 2 lines at the same time, so i could have some delays when 2
inputs are activated simultaneously if i use a software delay.

well, hope it's clear...

thanks in advance.

Doei!
Faisal

What you need is to ditch the 16F84.  The 16F628 does more, costs less,
and is pin compatible.  It also has 3 timers.  The next step up in 18 pin
parts is the 18F1320.  It has even more timers and other capabilities.

Not realy answering your question, but...

I do hope you have a *realy* good reason to use the
now obsolet 16F84 chip. If you can, look at anyone
of the newer 16F-chips, or maybe one in the 18F-series.

thanks for your replies, here's my situation:

- i had for free a programmer that is compatibile only with the 16f84
and 16f84A

- when you say "i have to start learning PICs" here (in italy) they
sell you a 16f84 and suggest you links and books on the 16f84. When i
asked for a comparison with an AVR they started wondering "wot?"

- it's my first approach, so i have to make some wrong things :-)

I'll look for some newer controllers then!

Thanks,
Faisal
