'[PIC]: finding a 3rd party freeware for my P16PRO '

Hi!

I am new to PIC programming.  I have assembled the Tait's P16PRO kit
successfully and tried it with the P16PRO Lite and PICALLW in free mode.
However, by using these software, I can only program P16x84x chips!  Is
there any third party DOS/Windows freeware which can program PIC chips OTHER
THAN PIC16x84z via the Tait's P16PRO programmer hardware?  If there is, then
I can fully utilise the capability of my P16PRO hardware.

Also, do you know any PIC BASIC compilers which are freeware and for DOS or
Windows?  In your opinion, which C/C++ compiler freeware is the best? Why?

Thanks for your help!

Regards,
Mark Farnell

I think the best is asm, and it's free.
C (and Basic) compilers do a lot of things behind your back, waste a lot of
program memory space and debugging is more difficult if the reason of the
problem is a compiler bug.

You could try IC-Prog at: http://www.ic-prog.net/index1.htm
It's free and their site tells you how to configure it to work with
different types of programmers. It is very flexible software. I hope this
helps.

There's the source code for my programming software that NOBODY seems
interested in. It'd be easy to modify that to suit your purposes,
assuming you know C++.

See thread entitled "[PIC]: Programming software source here."
I think that was just a pathetic attempt at blatant self promotion on my
part. Oh well,

Dave
