'[PIC]: USART'

I recall mention on the list about the IO pins used for UART use are
automatically configured when the USART is enabled.

This is not the case with the 628 chips. The TRIS bits must be set
accordingly for it to work. ie. RX = in, TX = out.

It is in the data sheet, although I missed it and got stung.

I accidently set RX = out and TX = in the other day. Took me a while
to figure out why the board wasn't receiving anything from the PC!
Doh! After (mentally) slapping myself in the face with a wet fish, I did
go and correct it and everything started working. I've always set the
tris register to reflect what the peripherals are doing but this one was
a simple typo.

I missed it too (but I never had trouble with it :-))
If you look at p 36, p37 of DS40300B, you can see that it's not
necessary to write to tris ???
Can you tell me where it's in the datasheet and which datasheet
(Miicrochip has a number of erata) ?
cheers,
Stef Mientki

I have documant DS41197A which looks like it's been updated to DS41197B
which magically has ICD the info missing.

I have attached a gif of the pinout.
