'[PIC]: UK Supplier for ICD?'

Hi,

Ah....Panic stations!

As it would appear that Farnell has no stock for the ICD, does anyone know
of an alternative UK ICD supplier that they have purchased from and been
happy with?

Also, I don't actually need the full ICD kit - only the carrier for the
f877 and the programmer/interface (i.e. the target board is not required).
Has anyone been able to purchase such a reduced set of goodies?

I've been in contact with a few companies but would like to see if anyone
has a more experienced view of this matter.

Regards,
Dan

Dan,
if you are a business client then you should be able to get an ICD kit off Unique (formerly Ambar)
in Aylesbury who are one of Microchip's distributors: 01296 397 396

Simon

Hi,

Thanks for the information (that is to everyone!)....

I just had a conversation with a distributor who sell an alternative to the
ICD, made by the company (according to what I was told) Transdata who
actually designed the serial version of the ICD for MCHIP .

The company, Transdata, went on to offer what appears to be a parallel-port
version of the ICD allowing much faster programming/debug times than for
the serial device. It interfaces with MPLAB and has its own Windows front
end which, on first impression, looks more professional than MPLAB.....and
supports most C compilers etc. It is a little more expensive @ ~130+VAT.

Does anyone any experience with this product? Do you think it is better
value?
Any compatibilty problems? I have been using an serial ICD but no longer
have access to it. With short timescales, I'd prefer to almost pick up
where I left off rather than have a learning exercise for a new
"environment"....but I do like the idea of it being faster.

Transdata hardly look like a dodgy outfit as they produce emulators for
Mitsubishi M16/RICE etc

Regards,

Dan

I offer a repackage of the serial ICD that includes the main MPLAB
serial module, serial cable and a telephone terminal that brings out
the leads to connect to the target for USD $89.00.  I am not in the
UK, but shipping via AIR takes about a week and is $9.00.

Details are at http://www.phanderson.com/icd/

Advance Transdata certainly made the Microchip ICD, I have an earlyish one
and it has the Transdata name silkscreened onto the board.  I don't know of
anyone that has used the parallel version, but if it's faster than the
Microchip one, it's got to worth having!
