'[PIC]: Programmer ICSP.'

Hi gurus,
       I've two question:
- anybody can suggest me the schematic of a PIC programmer to program PIC
16F873/6?
- anybody can suggest me how to connect PIC 16F873 to use ICSP Programmino
(resistor etc)?

I've a propic clone programmer that works only with the pic on the board
(not ICSP, I made a mistake?) and only under Win95 (Win xp no).

Thanks,
       Max.

You already need a working programmer to make the
Wisp. Instead try this one:
http://www.semis.demon.co.uk/Pics/PICmain.htm.
After I had made a non working JDM Programmer, I made
this one (finished it today) and it worked instantly
without any problems.

If you want to use the PCB design available on the
site, I suggest you download a trail version of
Easy-PC (search on Yahoo) to print it to transparency
(or that special pcb paper, whatever it's name is),
instead of using the also available bmp.

The PPWin programmer has an ICSP, an 8-pins, an
18-pins & a 40-pins socket, as opposed to only a
40-pins socket on the Wisp.

Regards, Anthony

Wrong.

Or maybe you could be more specific ?

Jan-Erik.

Actually, you do need one. Take a look at the Wisp
page. There's a PIC16F628 in the circuit, which you
need to program with code first. So, you really do
need a working programmer already.

Actually, this kind of makes me wonder why someone
would build the Wisp. I'm not saying it's a bad
programmer or anything, but if you want to build it
yourself, you most probably have a working programmer
already...

You could use an unreliable (like 1 in 5 success rate) programmer that
works only with the XT you are about to throw away or only when you
start your 2 GHz XP with dos 3.11, and programs only 16F628's, and does
no ICSP.

Or you could buy a pre-programmed PIC from me, or have one of your
friends program one for you.

Absolutly not !!

Correct.

no, *anyone* could do that. And actualy, Wouter sells
programmed 628's for the Wisp. You have to re-read
Wouters site again !

no you don't. :-) :-)

What about "works well", and "good support " ?

You could have, but don't *have* to have one.

I'm not taking this any further from here.
Why don't you just check what Wouter has available
from his Web-store ?

Take care,
Jan-Erik.

You are totally correct. I was just assuming that you
(or who ever asked about a programmer, I can't
remember) didn't want to buy anything and wanted to do
everything by yourself.

Of course, if you want to buy the chip or let someone
else program the PIC16 for you, then I'm sure this is
an excellent choice.

After reading up on all the 'free' programmers it was quite obvious that the
Wisp628 was the one I wanted! What I did was build a JDM style programmer on
a solderless breadboard just to program the firmware for the 628.

So all you need is some spare components and 5 minutes to make a temporary
programmer for it ;-).

Because you can build a very basic programmer to JUST program the 628 and
then you've got a programmer that does much more. Or you could buy a 16F628
preprogrammed from someone like myself:
