Hi all,

I can't find anything on Microchips web site about this, but has anyone
seen any info on entering programming mode after the MCLR pin has been
configured as an input in the CONFIG statement.

TIA

regards

Tony

Wouter mentions this on his wisp628 page. I seem to remember he has some kind of
dongle that clobbers the power in some way to overcome the problem.

The vpp has to come on a fraction before vcc to get the device in
programming mode

Not on all chips though.

Yes, I saw that.

It appears to short VCC for a few milliseconds while VPP stays high.

I wondered if that could be accomplished by VPP before VCC powerup
sequence instead, but no mention of this MCLR case at all in the
programming spec.

This *is* a Vpp before Vcc sequence. Wisp628 derives Vpp from Vcc, this
is the most convenient way to do this.

Check for instance the prog spec for a 12F629. It states that Vpp must
be applied to /MCLR before Vdd (5V) is applied to Vss.
