'[PIC]: PICALL PIC Programmer'

I have a http://www.melabs.com <http://www.melabs.com/>  EPIC Pocket programmer
and I want to program 16C771 20 pin dip PICs.  To do this I will have to
update my software from v2.11 :-( AND buy a 8/18/20 ZIF connector, total
$45 before I pay shipping or tax!

Consequently, I'm looking for a new programmer that will ideally program
the 16C771SP and the 16F873SP.

I'm considering the 'PICALL PIC Programmer' which I can get from
http://www.electronics123.com/amazon/default.htm

<http://www.electronics123.com/amazon/default.htm%20for%20$70>  for $70
ish.

Or how about Tony Nixon's Pocket Programmer?  Anyone used this?  Any
good?  Will it program the 16C771SP 20 pin skinny dip?

Any comments on this purchase?  I'm happy to solder etc but I won't walk
a mile to save a penny.

Ted,
I happen to be using a PICALL which I bought from
Electronics123/Amazon.  The service from 123 was great, and the
programmer works reasonably well.  But I should say that I've
had to replace both voltage regulators (one 78l05 and one
78l08).  My only other beef is is that there's no ICSP
connector.  Apparently, you can do ICSP by making a DIP header
and putting it in the ZIF socket but it would be much easier if
the PICALL had a connector for this purpose.

If I were doing it again, I think I'd consider the Warp 13 from
http://www.phanderson.com/warp-13.html or through other
sources.  I have no experience with it but I've heard good
things about it.

Cheers,
Andrew

Kit 144 is a Kit 117 with the ICSP  added plus more programming options. It has the hardware for the V3.3 discussed in Bojans Help file, as well as the Scenix SX28AC hardware resistors.

It will be available next week.

What will the cost be on the kit 144? Is there a page up discussing its
capabilities?
