Thank you both. I noticed shortly after sending. I use Macs, and since
upgrading to Mac OS X v10.2 - which is simply the best OS I have ever
used - this has happened on various machines a couple of times only. It
happens on power-up and correcting it is simply a matter of clicking on
"Network Time" and syncing via the internet, but it can be a little
frustrating - particularly if I've sent a few emails before realising.
I am not sure if it is a known issue with the OS - I hope an update
will correct it soon. :-(

Quite frankly - it should work just fine.  You don't have any analog pins
so you shouldn't have to worry about substrate currents.

Thank you for your input. This is an Interesting point. That is
actually a published circuit. My planned circuit will actually use 2
trimpots connected to two analogue pins, so yes. A/D accuracy is an
issue.

With that said however, I have already used a *similar* power supply in
a commercial product with A/D and they seem to be working fine in the
field. However, my supply has the X2 cap and series resistor in the
'Active' (Hot) line, then I go to a full bridge rectifier, through
another 1N4005, then to a Zener and an LP2950 +5V regulator. I have
electrolytic caps on both the input and output of the regulator - in
addition to various other multilayer ceramics. This circuit effectively
places my neutral at ground, so I could not use the neutral for zero
cross detection.

I might try to draw a GIF of my circuit also. I am not real good at
ASCII art :-)
