Hello,

Does anybody has experience is using a PIC for a high volume production line
(10K's to 100K's) ?

If so, what was your strategy is getting the PIC's at best price ? Locating
a dealer ? Negotiating with Microchip directly ?

Any hint/suggestion on getting PICs' (and other components) at best prices
will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tal

Hi Tal.

Getting good credit history first ;)
Then going directly to Microchip
knowing what to ask.

WBR Dmitry.

PS. 10K isn't a high volume.
100K is good to start with.

Hello Tal,

It may sound disappointing but you will not get best component price for
your first volume order.
You have to buy in volume and to have proven track buying record with your
distributor in order to achieve good price.
Just to ask what some PIC in 10K, 100K or 2 million pieces would cost will
not give you the best offer for sure as your distributor receive a lot of
such requests but only small amount of them are followed by real deals
later, so they will not bother to give you price different than the standard
offer they have.
You have to prove that you are talking for real deal and that you will
really buy those chips if you want to work out good price, even better if
you have target price.
IMO negotiation with Microchip directly is not good option - better speak to
distributors who already buy really millions PICs from Microchips and have
negotiated with Microchip prices you will never achieve with your 10K order.

Best regards
Tsvetan

Go direct.  Anything over 5000 pieces IMHO can probably be purchased direct
from microchip cheaper than through a distributor.
