'[PIC]: Midrange Ref Man from 1997/08 ???'

Hi.
Is it correct that there is no newer "PICmicro Midrange MCU Family
Reference Manual" (DS33023a), then the one from 1997/98
that can be found on :
??
I looked at the MSSP chapter, and it says that *no* midrage MCU
currently have the MSSP implemented, but, as far as I understand,
that's what e.g. the F877 have, not ?
And still, can I consider whatever alse is written about the MSSP in
the midrange MCU ref manual to be correct ? Yes, it's more or less the same
as in the specific F877 ref manual, but with a little bit more examples and
some pointers to "related application notes". And that seems to be the case
for teh other chapters also.
It's a bit hard to understand why this manual hasn't been updated in 4-5 years...
Best Regards

Personally I don't bother with the midrange reference manual. Everything
you need is in the individual data sheets which are much more reliable
than a "one size fits all" description.

Except when the individual data sheet tells you to refer to the mid-range manual.
Excerpted from section 5.4.1 of the 12f675 data sheet (DS41190A-page 31)
"Reading the 16-bit value requires some care. Examples 12-2 and 12-3 in the PICmicro™ Mid-Range MCU
Family Reference Manual (DS33023) show how to read and write Timer1 when it is running in Asynchronous mode."
The original poster's question was valid: if current data sheets (the 12f675 is a brand new part) tell you to refer to a document, should that document not be kept up to date?

Yes they do that, but the few times I've followed the link I haven't found
any new information there.

That's a silly question to ask of the list, since Microchip will do what
they will do. My advice is to read the data sheets carefully and
generally ignore the midrange reference manual.
