I'm going to be over in the US on vacation when this happens. Toying with the idea of sneaking away from the wife & kids and going.... Is it a worthwhile course? Is anyone here going? It is an excellent idea. A few people have also brought their wife and kids, but not very often (Hey Larry!). The classes are 10% marketing (future tools/products) and 90% hands on training. You get to write a clip of program to make a widget work. USB, CAN, LAN, you name it. And they feed you well! I have gone every year since it started. I find it well worth the time and cost to go. Good information in a solid format. They may be going again next year too. I will be there solo this year and will not have to leave early like last year. I am looking forward to the robot contest again since I had to miss it last year. I never miss going and always book ahead. Worth every penny and the time involved. I go every year, wouldn't miss it for anything. I love the hands on, and it is great to mix with the people that makes Microchip happen. I have never seen a serious attempt to gather piclisters together, although 4 years ago Andy Warren did teach a class on PIC tips, and had a mention of the PICLIST. He even attributed code clips to Dmitry, Scott, and others. I also palled around with Andy Kunz one year too. And Larry Nelson is like a fixture. I just thought of an idea. Everyone passes through the Microchip store once or twice. One could make up a simple sign that says 'Piclist getogether at the east pool Thursday night at 7:00'. If we did something like that, and folks got a day or two to see it, then it might work. But you have to find out what the events schedule is before you make the sign. I think a good place to meet is either at the robot competition or at the game night. Last year a bunch of us walked across the street to do some shopping at our favorite toy store. That is one of the advantages of the new location. A sign like that would get a lot of curious people attending. Not that I see a problem with that, but just that it defeats the purpose of getting only the piclisters together, which seems to be the intention here. What you need is something that only piclisters would understand/recognize, such as t-shirts with "my wages are $1-a-day" or misspell "your" for "you're". :-) Yes, I'm in a trouble-making mood today, especially considering that I won't even be there. For those people on the East coast attending the conference and thinking about going to Fry's, do a quick yahoo search on "fry's electronics" and look at the unofficial Fry's pages. :-) I've only been to the San Diego store but it pretty much lived up to what other people have encountered. We got a pretty good price on a HP Palmtop but getting out of the store with it - ugh! Fry's is across the street. Great place. I wish they had one near me here in MA. I do not know if they ship but Microchip will ship your Microchip purchases for a fee. Possibly they or the hotel can arrange shipping for you if you buy a lot of goodies. Did not manage to find a single item I couldn't live without that was at a price I found irresistable. Sadly, we have stores in Omaha with prices and selection as good on the consumer type crap, and the stock of parts and such seemed to be way less than my forst Fry's trip a couple of years ago.
