'[PIC]: MPLAB annoyance'

Hi, -

I couldn't find a listing on this, hopefully it's not a FAQ...

MPLAB (5.31.00) sometimes gets itself into a mode where it insists on marking
everything whenever the cursor is moved. If you double-click at a new
location, it moves to there, but then paging up or down in the editor
marks all the text up or down from there. Exiting the project or even
exiting MPLAB and restarting does not terminate this, but rebooting the
computer does. 8-(  The cursor is the 'hand' even when the mouse button
is released.

ISTR I got out of this somehow once (without rebooting), but I can't
remember how.

Anyone ?

Best regards,

Whenever I see that sort of thing (although I have never used that version
of MPLAB) I tap and release each ctrl, alt and shift key and click each
mouse button individually.

Just in case that helps.

I've seen this with some Win95 software, try pressing
the ALT or CONT keys repeatedly. Maybe while also pressing
the mouse buttons. Something messes up between
the keyboard handler and the mouse driver. It gets stuck
in a "sort of" ALT mode, like text block selection.
Also try getting the Microsoft Mouse 8.2 drivers, (or the
latest drivers for specialty mouse if you have one)

Also check your bios settings for keyboard state on bootup,
make sure it boots up with numlock, caplock, etc all off.
Hope that helps! :o)

If I scroll up or down with my mouse the MPLab cursor goes invisible. I found
out that if I save the asm file I get the cursor back again. Or restart the prog
ofcourse.

I've found that switching to another application and then back to MPLAB
seems to restore some things.

I think this is a known problem with MPLAB. I seem to remember that
Microchip recommend that you disable the mouse wheel scrolling for MPLAB.
You can do that via the mouse settings in the control panel (you need the
extended intellipoint stuff I think). Seems to me that in the current
version of MPLAB this may have been fixed...
