'[PIC]: MPLAB 5.5 and Hitech C'

I am also running MPLAB 5.5 and Hitech  C compiler, and have gone
trhough the same problems that you pointed out.  The 5.5 version is a
little bit buggy, also: when I set more than a couple of breakpoints,
the program crashes. Seriously, I am thinking in getting back to 5.4 !!

I can't wait to have MPLAB 5.6 ;-)

Best regards to all PIC listers
Francisco

5.5 is written in PASCAL. 16 bit technology written for dos. It has been patched
to death to work in windows. Some bugs are still being dealt with. Latest news is
that a new 32 bit version is in the works. Probably written in VB.

Almost certain it is VC++. At least that's what I gleaned when talking to
the MPLAB 6 development team while at the Master's last summer. I think
those of us in the dsPIC classes were the very first non-mChip people to
actually use MPLAB 6 and the developers were hanging around to get our
feedback.

I'd be quite interested in hearing some of that feedback! :)

As I posted shortly after the Masters, at the time it was quite buggy, but
the basic structure seemed to make quite a bit of sense. It is a little
different from any other IDE I've used, so there were some issues with that.
I expect we'll all soon grow to love it as a much better replacement for
5.5.

Wish they make their editor colored like proper c editors for code
readability, there current editor really sucks!

Since every programmer has their own favorite editor [editors are
like women, everyone's taste is a bit different... ;-)], I have
been asking them for at least 5 years to let us hook any 3rd
party editor and use that.

At least 2 or 3 other IDE's I use have this feature. No editor
that comes with MPLAB will ever match the features and usefulness
of CodeRight, Multi-Edit, Visual SlickEdit, or even a shareware
editor like UltraEdit32. Even if it did, it wouldn't be the
editor you want to use...
