'[PIC]: MC as a MC distributor ?'
2005\07\26@201135 by Jan-Erik Soderholm

face picon face
Hi.

I've been looking at prices at "Buy-Microchip" and
they seems to
be fairly competative.

Now, does anyone have any opinion on Microchip
as a "Microchip distributor" ?

Does Buy-Microchip work as easy as any
other
distributor out there ?

I'm in Europe, and have been using
Farnell for
other stuff before, and Farnells PIC prices are
not bad at
all, but MC are aprox 6-8 % lower
anyway...

Or does anyone have a
(better) source for a
couple of 100s of maybe 10 of  the most
popular
"hobbyist PICs" ?

Best Regards,

Jan-Erik.

I've bought from them a few times. One time they screwed up the ordering,
the order got stuck and just sat there for a few weeks, I talked to them,
they said it had been canceled and I should please order again, which I
did. Approximately at the same time the new order arrived, the original
order arrived, too -- both on my doorstep and on my credit card. But since
I could make use of the parts and was /really/ busy at the time, I didn't
care to follow up and try to send them back for a refund.

But other than that, I didn't have any problems. And they seem to have the
high-temp parts more often than other distributors in small quantities.

Down this way I use Arrow (Asia, mostly, or Memec. I don't
think I've ever bought just one PIC, always more economic
by the tube. Often that's a judgement call. I had a small job
that required a few 508s, but it was sensible to buy a 60 tube
of 12F as they are certain to be used in future, more so than
508s. The 508s were cheaper but I'd have been stuck with
40 dust-gatherers

You may like to look at Crownhill in the UK, or of course Wouter's shop.

Yep, forgot about them...

Hm, Crownhills single unit prices
matches
Microchips 100-unit prices. Interesting... :-)

I've mailed
them asking about volume pricing.

Just FYI...

Got an answer...

They
[Crownhill] don't have any special
volume prices since their prices are
quite low as they are.

Fine. Now I know...

Buy-Microchip still leads.
Which seems quite logical, in a way.

Time to find out the shipping
costs
from Microchip...

Jan-Erik.

When I look at a Crownhill price (10F202-I/P is GBP 0.48) it is
definitely higher than the uChip 100+ price ( E 0.56).

But their 'special offers' are always worth checking!

Yes, right.

Everything points to the Buy-Microchip
"shop"
at the moment...

And it worked just fine.

Fast shipping,
overnight from UK/Irland
with UPS to my front door.

Jan-Erik.
