Did you start from scratch, or patch existing I2C s.w. ???

[if I had done it, the answers would be about 32 from scratch
and 7 for patch].

Hmm, for me it would depend on the sort of day I'd been having.  I've put
together some pretty complex stuff and ammazed myself when it's worked
almost first time.  OTOH I've spent hours and numerous re-programs on some
pretty trivial pieces of code usualy overlooking something blatantly
obvious.

I wrote a basic I2C routine from scratch on an 8051 in about 1/2 hour (in C)
and I get the feeling you one of those people that has "good days" most of
the time, so I'll go for 4.
