'[PIC]: ICD-2 tales, part 003'

Microchip wrote me and told me there was a beta version 6 for MPLAB
that I could try, but I wasn't supposed to tell anyone.  Ten minutes
later Tony Nixon broke the same news, this time "with permission
from Microchip".   Maybe we PICLISTers are considered a priviledged
sort.  Anyway I haven't tried this yet, but I will if
I run out of other options.

The second ICD-2 arrived yesterday.  It behaves exactly the same
way as the first.  Except that I noted one 'funny' thing.  This
is an appropriate time to review one of Dale's tag lines.

The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new
discoveries, is not 'Eureka!' (I found it!) but 'That's funny ...'
         -- Isaac Asimov

Seems if I have a program (no debugger) loaded into my board, have
the ICD connected, and power up both simultaneously, the program
will run!   If I disconnect the ICD and power up the board it
will not run.  If I power them up separately it will not run.
If I start MPLAB and throw resets at it, it will not run.

I already verified that the reset works "correctly" but now I
will obviously have to get the scope out again and find out
how that "correctly" differs from my "correctly".  (For review,
an 18F252 was swapped in where a 16F876 had been.)

Stay tuned.
