'[PIC]: ICD migration to target app problems'

I have been developing my appliation using the ICD module, and so now I need
to remove the ICD from it (unplug the RJ connector) and run in standalone so
to speak.

So I programmed the chip in my Picstart, disconnected the cable and the chip
won't run.

I even tried a "new" chip that hadn't been programmed at all yet.

So is there something that I am missing on this?  I did try removing the NOP
at the first also, but didnt make a differnce.

Also put the ICD back in, programs and runs fine under those conditions.

When you program chip, make sure you check OFF the debug mode in the option
window.

Debug mode disabled...

There isnt anything in the code, besides the first NOP that needs to be
there for ICD...right?  It needs to be there for the jump for the ICD
debugger code...I think

Yes. That's all..that's right. Why aren't you programming it in the ICD
header and removing it from the header and plug it into the main board?

My dev board is just one of the Microengineering labs units, and I soldered
the RJ jack to it, wired the couple of wires to the PORTB connetions, so
there isn't a header.  You can't just program the chip using the ICD can
you?  The debugger is loaded automatically to the target isnt it?

The default setting is for the debug code to be programmed into the chip - but it can be deselected in the "ICD options" dialog and the chip programmed when you are ready to run your chip as a stand-alone system.

Yes, you can just program the PIC with the ICD, just don't check the "debug"
box on the programming window.  It's painfully slow though!

You sure can!

No, it isn't!

All you need to do is make sure the "Enable Debug Mode" checkbox is cleared
in the ICD options dialog.

Then after programming you should be able to disconnect the ICD from the
target and go.

One thing to watch out for: when using the ICD it will drive the MCLR line
appropriately. You should make sure that MCLR will be high on the target
with the ICD disconnected.

No slower than programming to debug, in my experience.

No it's not, but that itself is painfully slow compared to e.g. a Pictstart
and especialy a Pro-mate.  Not knocking the ICD though, it's got me out of
many a nasty situation!

OK...I've got it 'working' in the sense that I just did a simple flash the
LED thing to make sure.  And it works.  Proves that the chip will and does
run doing this.

However, when I put the full program in with the I2C interface, the I2C
doesn't respond anymore.

I am suspecting either watchdog or interupts.  I'm goint to add some stuff
in to turn on LED depending on the routine its in, see where it goes from
there.
