'[PIC]: How to combine two PCB layouts ?'

Hello,

I have two PCB designs done in Protel 99SE and I would like to combine
them into a single 'board' to reduce the manufacturing cost and then cut
them myself.

Any recommendation how to do that ?

Is there any free or reasonably priced utility to combine Gerber files
or similar formats ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tal

Open up the help files in Protel and search on "panelize". The help for
that topic discusses exactly what you want to know.

You can also design the entire board, and copy and then paste copies of the
design onto the panel
size you want designed.  If you choose all the layers, this shouldn't be a
problem.  I do it all the time
using ACCEL EDA.

Thanks Tom,

This does the trick (I was not aware of the Duplicate Designator feature
and that made the Protel panelizing very painful).

What about merging Gerber files created with other tools ? Some of our
PCB's were created with Pads, is there a panelizing software that works
in the Gerber level ?

There are many gerber viewer programs that also allow some editing
functions that you are looking for.  Check the net for free gerber viewing
programs.

To merge Gerbers from different sources into a single file you need to use
CAM software. IIRC, Protel 99SE includes CAM software named CAMtastic that
can do what you want.
