In MPlab, using the ICD, if I just want to program a PIC16F876, and have it running outside of the debug mode, how do I do it?

In your ICD option, uncheck Enable Bebug Mode. Program as normal.
You have to unplug the ICD module to get it to run as the module keeps
your MCLR low.

I use the Microchip-ICD and the Advanced Transdata-parallel-PICICD as well.
(So I have the possibility to debug the boards with i2c-master and i2c-slave
at the same time). Then I want to program the device to running stand alone.
With the Microchip-ICD its easy to uncheck "Enable Debug Mode" and program
the pic. If I do so with the Advanced Transdata-ICD then the box "Use ISP
Header" is disappearing and it seems to be not working (the status in the
device configuration shows the increasing programm memory counter, but after
this I disconnect the ISP and the program is not running)
Has anyone suggestions what's my fault?

kind regards Ulrich

An update. I've always unplugged my ICD for free running. But I noticed
today that I can run the PIC without the debug code and the ICD still
plugged in. After you program the PIC, reset it from MPLAB (it takes
longer to reset than with debug code) and the PIC starts running
normally. I guess the reset releases the MCLR.
Handy for that last minute testing before removing the board from ICD.
