Does anyone know where there is a good alphanumeric LCD resource website or other information, as I want to incorperate such a component into a project. It would be helpful if the resource not only had details of how to display things on the screen, but also how to display things in specific areas of the screen (so you can just update something on the display such as the time without having to refresh the whole thing). This guy's website has a java based LCD simulator the simulates the HD44780. http://www.geocities.com/dinceraydin/djlcdsim/djlcdsim.html I bought a 20x2 LCD from BGMicro and used this Java simulator to get the parallel comm straight in my head. I used the data sheet for my LCD and got to pressing buttons and loading bits on the simulator and it all made since very quickly. Just set your data bits, then toggle the enable. Easier than making mac and cheese. Once I went to the PIC I was able to write some code and have my LCD working in no time flat, thanks to some practice on this guy's site. Try http://www.seetron.com/ and http://www.matrixorbital.com/ The first does not support automatic scroll and provide TTL interface. The second one support both I2C and RS232 (some work with TTL level, despite what the manual says but remember to invert the signal). Both vendors support various control commands. This zipped file has 14 ASM code files that help explain how to use the LCD in 8 bit and 4 bit modes. It also has has a Windows program that sends commands to a simple PIC project that controls the LCD display over the serial port.
