I don't know. I've never been to one before. It couldn't hurt
to ask though. It does run for the whole day and I expect
that it's a sales pitch as well. Like they say on Seinfeld:

Probably the introductory seminar where they give you a very sketchy
overview, a sales pitch, a few samples, literature and a bit of discount
on a Picstart etc. Oh, and a good lunch.

If you like that sort of thing.. I don't think they really care if you're
a hobbyist or not.

They charge enough for the seminar that you could probably get a better
lunch elsewhere for less, and not have your appetite ruined by geeky
engineers milling about and clumsily trying to make small talk. ;-)

I went to a signal processing seminar at the local Microchip office a year
or two ago.  I usually give a company one shot, and if it's a sales pitch
or somebody reading me the manual, I never go back.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Microchip seminar.  They didn't talk
down to the audience like we were idiots.  They did spend the time showing
us some neat tricks on using the PIC18 for signal processing.  I would be
willing to go to another one on a different topic.

I have also tried out a TI seminar on their DSPs and a Motorola seminar on
their microcontrollers.  TI is definitely on my "never again" list.  They
spent 10 minutes just telling us what a "DSP" was, then another 30 minutes
why we should use DSPs (as apposed to microcontrollers I think, but this
wasn't clear).  The rest of the morning was a glorified sales pitch
telling us all the neat things you can do with a TI DSP, but there was
very little compare and contrast between the offerings of their product
line, and between their stuff and their competitors.  Every time they
started to hint at the underlying architecture and instruction set, they
dumbed it down and glossed over the details.  I would have walked out
after the first hour if it hadn't been that the development tools were
scheduled to be shown off in the afternoon.  This was done much better (by
a guy who actually new something), but didn't make the whole day worth it.

The Motorola seminar was at least run by people who knew the technical
details of their microcontrollers, but in the end there was little there
that couldn't have been learned by sitting down and reading the manual for
about the same amount of time.  I did get some useful information about
their product line and development tool setup by talking to one of the
guys during lunch.
