'[PIC]: Do F877's get hot when programming?'
2001\06\29@153750
by

I'm trying to build a F877 programmer but having limited success.
How hot will this chip get during programming? I was barely able to keep my
finger on the chip due to heat.
Will I be able to scope the Oscillator and see it running if the unit works?
Thanks,
Kev

This is not a good thing.

Nope, the oscillator doesn't run during programming.

I didn't have enough time to complete here...
The cause for this for hot chips is usually Vdd, Vss, and Vpp on the
wrong pins. In addition to the wrong chip orientation, it can also be
caused by the wrong config in your programming software or a programmer that
doesn't support a 16F877.
