I don't have any experience with either chip.  I was about to buy some
16F876 chips and noticed the 16F876A version, what's the difference?

I'm guessing it's listed in the 30303b.pdf, but I'm missing it.

Just wild guesses:
§ MSSP fix of I2C master mode
§ Enhanced electric performance (ADC, output drive, ...?)
§ Schrinked silicon (cheaper manufacture)
