'[PIC]:[EE]: What is the real cost of a single resi'
2003\05\02@115832 by Tal

What is the actual cost of having a resistor on a PCB ?

Is it true that pick-and-place operation of a single SMD resistor cost
few cents ?

If possible, please calibrate your numbers to very high volume
manufacturing in the far east.

I don't think there is an easy answer. So much depends on things like PCB size (does this resistor
make the PCB bigger?) and number of parts already on the board, whether it's the same or different
value as  parts already used elsewhere etc.  etc.

face picon face
I think the cost will also depend on the number of resistors of that
kind on your board: the operator changing a reel of resistors might be
more expensive (in loan for the operator or in time the machine is not
running) than either the resistor itself or the pick-and-place time on
the machine. And don't forget the PCB area occupied by the PCB.

Let's assume that it does not increase the PCB and there is aleady
resistor of this type.
