'[PIC:] Web group-effort interface'

How worried would you guys be about having an email address on a public
site?  I'm just about done with the group-effort interfaces, and I can't
really come up with a good way to hide the primary lister's email address.
Everybody else's is just available to the one who sets up the group-sale.
Would it be ok just to have a general text field to allow anti-spam email
addresses like "robert a*t pic list dot com"?  But then there's the problem
of email notification when the minimum quantity is reached.  Any ideas?

theres no need for the persons email address to be on public display

if its just the site notifying the principal (and buyers) that the moq has
been reached then there is no need for anything other than a name to be
displayed.

if its for buyers to contact the principal (or vice versa) then they either
log in before they can see email addresses (allow non loged in people to
still look around, see whats on offer), or use a web interface to allow
mails to be sent to the username of the person in question (the reply to
address of each mail could also be set to the users real email address.

I'm trying to avoid a full-fledged login style monster, so maybe a web-email
interface will be the answer.  Probably not too hard with sendmail 8..
anybody have a generic one?

squirrel mail is what I use. It uses IMAP though so it is probably
overkill. You're using PHP so maybe you should check out PHP sessions.

Just use the PHP mail() function.

If you use the mail function, then don't forget to escape any input that
other users may be allowed to pass it...

I did use it.  Could you please elaborate on what you mean by escape any
input?

thanks!

p.s. A prototype will be up shortly

Do a search on php.net for strings to escape.  There are special
characters you need to escape otherwise you can pass shellcode.  Unless
of course they changed the old mail function, but you use to have to do
your own escaping.

I would not want my email exposed on the site. Also, a login is IMHO
the only way to assure validity of actions/bids for an email and keep
the trolls away. Also might want to add subtotal and a way to change
the ammount of purchase. LMK if I can help.

With sendmail ?! No.

I would suggest a wiki. Or lurker.sourceforge.net . The latter seems most
appropriate although it may be too advanced for what is needed.
