'[PIC:] New Wisp628'

Hi Guys, I have finally built my Wisp628 (or should that be a
Wisp648a?:)) And it _appears_ to work, I got the following

$ python ../../../xwisp/xwisp.py PORT 1 CONNECT
XWisp 1.08, command line mode
hardware: Wisp628 1.09 (fast)
OK

Which I figured was a Good Thing. I then issued...

$ python ../../../xwisp/xwisp.py PORT 1 CONNECT go charout.hex
XWisp 1.08, command line mode
hardware: Wisp628 1.09 (fast)
hardware: Wisp628 1.09 (fast)
target: 16f876A, revision 07 (ID=0E07)
OK

Which I think is a Good Thing, it figured out that the target, and from
my understanding, 'go' programs and verifies which suggests the program
is on board OK, however the program isn't doing anything, is my
understanding correct? Did it load? It's entirely possible my program
doesn't work properly...

Thanks for comments

Anthony

You can leave out the CONNECT and PORT 1.

GO does an erase, write, and read back for verification. So yes, your
programming should be succesfull. To be realy sure you could do a READ
<file> or GET DUMP to see what is in the PIC.

My site has a bunch of flash-a-led programs, use the appropriate one so
you have one thing less to worry about. That page also has foto's of the
target cicruits.

I have found that without the PORT 1 it doesn't work (this is a linux
machine) almost as if it is using the wrong port...

Yes, I checked this out and there was very little difference between the
loaded file and 'READ' file as measured with 'diff'

I went through and double checked the code and it was bad, I had botched
the setting of a TRIS register and was reading from outputs and writing
to inputs. That fixed and it works!

I am _REALLY_ loving the Wisp, Wouter you have done an excellent job in
designing this tool. It is fast, it is in-circuit (no more fannying
about with sockets and worrying about bent legs), it is consistent and
the price is right. I built my own from the schematic, and the tech
support for it is second to none. My only regret is that I struggled
with my old Tait programmer so long before I bit the bullet, if I was to
do it over, I'd have bought a preprogrammed PIC and not fooled with the
Tait device.

I'll add in and say once again that my Wisp628 was the best thing I've
purchased to get into working with PICs.
