Just happened upon this, whilst looking at a cartoon about arsenic based life forms.

How are your moral rectifiers and magic smoke?

It's a start.
I'd prefer something which was more complex and close enough to "real"
that it took time and care to ensure that "you were having your leg
pulled".

Long ago in a prior lifetime we used to have circuits like that for
cross-bar and early digital  telephone exchanges - except that the
people who provided them had no idea that they were sometimes a joke
in progress. No names :-). (Fault driven modifications on cross-bar
appear to be achieved by fixing the current problem and then waiting
to see what would happen in due course).

That reminds me of the old trick to play on people in purchasing:

"Make sure you buy zero ohm resistors that are 1% tolerance for
product X. 5% ones will not work in our design!"

You mean Farnell 1469846:

and not Farnell 1795167:

But what if you need 150mW ones?

Unlike any other value resistor, zero ohm resistors are never their
stated value. There's got to be one of life's big lessons in there :)

And their error is outrageous, infinite in fact.
