'[OT]Lack of manners from suppliers'

I'm starting to get really annoyed by what I see as the lack of
manners, and from a company point of view should be looked upon as an
advertising strategy and an announcement as to the type of company
they are.

So far this year 3 suppliers who deal in small quantities have not
answered emails requesting purchase info and costs to Australia.

Polykom (who are the Zetex agent and live in Oz) never replied
concerning release of new parts and prices.

Sentron - sent me a datasheet, but no reply to the postage costs of
their evaluation kit - CH80 approx A$90.00

GWS - Sentron agent and stockist for the US - No reply on postage
costs for their version of the eval kit U$25.00.

As Sentron don't seem to deal through other channels, I assume they
love their parts so much they wish to hog them for themselves.

A surprisingly large proportion of companies in all fields still don't seem to regard email as an
important means of communication - you still have to resort to good old phone technology.

The best I had recently is one that refused to email a quote - they insisted on faxing it..!

I got some samples from Memec recently of some Cirrus logic parts. The
proof of concept worked, so I emailed my rep to get some different
chips to build a full prototype. She passed me off to another rep who
emailed me saying I should deal with him. That was the last I heard of
him. I haven't had the time yet, but I plan on calling him directly.
If they don't want to give me samples, then fine, I have no problem
with not wanting to hand out free parts. However, ignoring my requests
is not an option. He had the chance to turn me down via email, now he
will have to deal with me on the phone, and I'm sure it will be much
more uncomfortable for him.

That, and he's reduced the likelyhood of my using Memec in the future
by a significant amount.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something
completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete
fools.

Oh, you mean you will ask him for his managers name, as you want to talk to
him, and tell him how helpful the first salesman was, and how useless this
one is :))

Unless you can deal with the first salesman over this (and all other)
product.

Oh, so that's how you get Cirrus samples!  Following the instructions on
their website yields absolutely no reply, ever.  Thanks Cirrus!
