I think I read once about a new type of LCD that retains its image when
power is removed.  Anyone know who makes them?

No, I dont. But I wonder what is the great beneffit of it. Probably to
keep showing "THIS DEVICE IS POWERED DOWN".  :)

One of the major advantages was supposed to be zero power draw except for the
brief time it was switching.  For devices that don't change the LCD alot you
can put the processor to sleep and turn the LCD off completely for the
ultimate in power savings.
