Hmm, now let's think. This is the PIClist isn't it? That's a
discussion e-mail list? You posted to the PIClist didn't you?
Convention is that posting to a discussion list invites discussion
about what you've posted - please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm a little confused about how you're planning on using that as an
explanation for being an RBPI troll, but please feel free to make the
attempt.

If we discuss events or technical issues we are in the realm of the PIClist..... critiquing someone's lifestyle... not so much... also... the fact that RBPI calls me a troll does not make me a troll ..... the fact that you ( Chris ) posted to the PIClist does not mean I can start in on you personally..  Nor would I want to....  RBPI is a business..... they are taking orders and collecting money .... they are fair game for probing questions about their business practices..... I am annoyed that I am even writing this...  Gus

Feel free to discuss anything I've posted on here under an OT tag - if
I wasn't happy with it being discussed I'd not have posted it.

Here we come back to the misunderstanding about what RPi is, or rather
what it isn't. It's designed to be something cheap to go into schools
to teach kids, not as a platform for hobbyists. The RPi foundation is
also a charity, so will answer certain questions about it's business
practices to those who can demand answers. I have no connection with
RPi, but as somebody involved with IT in schools (and two children who
might benefit from this) I have a vested interest in its success.

1. Farnell & RS are not known for entering into complex large scale
conspiracies in order to defraud their customers or for other reasons.

2. Farnell & RS are liable to have enough business sense to not do due
diligence and so risk being caught up in a major product scam.

Go a very very long way to making your expressed concerns seem like
conspiracy theory and trolling.

ie both Farnell & RS seem to be totally convinced 9with RP featuring
at the top of their NZ home page) and to further your theories you'd
need to address these "facts" more solidly than by just saying
"Now it may be that RS and Farnell are authorized to produce boards"

Dear sir,

I don't think he's a troll at all. In my opinion the situation is being
handled extremely unprofessionally by Raspberry Pi personnel. In addition,
the usage of slang terminology commonplace among today's Internet-using
youth further adds to their discredit

RS say:

We have received extraordinary levels of demand for this product. To
help ensure as many people as possible can experience the Raspberry Pi
concept, we are limiting boards to one per customer, and we will send
you further information on your request in the next seven days. Once
we receive the boards into stock, they will be allocated on a
first-come first-serve basis, in order of when requests were received.
______________

I just ordered one from Farnament14el (delivery when available), and
registered interest with RS.

Price is ~$48 NZ + GST in each case. That's ~~~ $US36+.

The RS writer's use of written English is of interest. Little things,
but not up to the standard that I would have expected of them.

What?? I've been swindled, AU$ 38.00 + 10% GST (freight included for online orders) here, that makes you a whole $1.00 cheaper. That's it I'm off to complain and demand 10 XXXXXXL teashirts in compensation! I mean how am I ever to become a zillionaire if I allow such underhand shinnannigins (how the hell is that spelt?) to go unfettered?

Blows frambroiseries at all  and sundry.

Colin

PS. RS for two days listed at AU$ 50.00 and then reconsidered now at $38 as per E-14.

RS would be local freight extra I think .
Farnell offer free freight from Australia on NZ orders over $40 pre
GST, which this qualifies for.
They did say something about the pricing being the price within NZ or
summat so they probably figured that in already.

While everyone is waiting for the Pi to be served, would someone
please port Windows XP supercutdown [tm] to it so we can run old small
Windows apps on it. This may require a certain amount of binary magic
:-).

Failing that (which is very likely) what would be a very very very
good idea is for someone to provide a super handholding Windows_user
friendly distro of the Linux flavour of their choice so that when the
Windows world wakes up to the new toy there will be something ready
and waiting to seduce them to the light-side. The more usual "Linux is
not at all bad once you get to know it" approach will be good enough
for many, but not for the masses.

It will be interesting to see if the Windows 8 Arm version will run on the Pi, though of course the Pi fraternity might frown at this seeing as how the idea is to provide  teaching material cheaply.

What I'm waiting for is the port to RISCOS to be complete, Acorn Archimedes (BBC computer) heaven.

I believe one of the programming environments is to be Python.
