<x-flowed>Hi All,

I'm looking for a security camera (B/W or color)that will run 24 hours
non-stop for months. Is it easily available from some retail shops (I'm
living in Vancouver, Canada)?

Thanks in advance.

John

Costco has such a beast, I'm sure, among others.

Mail-order wise, MPJA, again among others, sells solid state B/W and
color cams that'll probably do as well.

Unsure what the longevity on these is (I'd start with a nice large GOOD
UPS, and a proper power supply, not a super-cheap junker <G>, if 24/7
operation's critical.  Maybe power it off a battery, with AC recharging
of the battery, instead.  Something to guarantee CLEAN power, despite
storms, lightning strikes, etc.!)

If you just want to remotely observe something rather than capture
incriminating evidence onto tape then 'Toys-R-Us' and similar stores sell
kids cameras that are reasonably indestructable, cheap, but low quality.
Eventually a background image will be burnt into the camera and monitor, but
at the price you can replace these types of camera every few years.

Bye.

Be aware of Extreme Cameras, from somewhere in Canada!!!
I paid them 200+ bucks for a small CCD camera they never sent. Worst yet
they billed me twice!
I sent a complain to VISA and got a refund of only one of the two bills.
But those guys don't answer my mails and faxes (since february), and the
camera is not #$%$@% here...

I'm finishing one that will run in RS-485...I did the board today...

You can connected 32 points...and receive the images serially...

Your PC must have a RS-322-->RS-485 converter...

Is there some interest?

Yes, I am very interested. There is a private project in my mind.
Maybe this will bring me a bit closer to the solution.

Peter,

I can't contact you...

I think that you will read my e-mail in PICLIST (sorry!)

=============
It will works at 485 environment...there are jumpers that select the
address (1..32).

The software sample will run in Windows...

The protocol is very easy, you must send a STX-SLAVE ADRESS-OPERATION-EOT

The operation can be:

-READ A FRAME
-SEND A COMMAND TO CCD
-READ A STATUS OF CCD
-ETC...

Hummm, i will have the define the Baud Rate... today is 115200...hummm, i
will have to insert DIP SWITCHS for define the BAUD RATE SELECT FOR LONG
DISTANCES...

I routed the board today... i will have to manufacture it, acquire some CCD
(VISION - ST)
and then put it for sale...

What more do you want to know about the camera?

Miguel, thanks
I start thinking about it.
The point is how to convert the frames into a serial stream.
I know, data come out from the ccd serially. But how to control the ccd ?
Is this a ccd-chip or a (lowcost) camera with a video signal ?
You may send me more infos to .....pkellerKILLspamspam@spam@datalink.ch
