Hello all fellow picers whom have not got thier filters on.
As you may recall I have been beavering away at my latest series of
projects, an I have been forced (Due to costs! (Yep Mchip is not the
cheapest controller in the land!)) to use an Hitachi H8 (300L flash based
beast with lots of goddies including I/O galor PWM serial ports and all
ather nice things (ICT and FLASH 32k of the darling stuff) and all this and
more but wait! I know you want more! OK the dammage, well I can not give the
exact figure but it is under $6US in numbers. The only thing that this does
not have is EEPROM.
OK so what is the problem? Dunno? I have just been investigating and have
the "C" tools, but I want to know if any others out there have used it (The
processor that is) and general comments. I guess that I would Like MCHIP to
pipe up and give a good price, but sigh this does not seem possible (Is hell
formig ice crystalsr?). Another thing anyone know of a chatlist for this
thing? Hey you would all love Japanese documentation, 1000s (Yes 1000s) of
pages and still the question remains, what does the NMI do? And How do I
single step in the simulator but these things I am working on.
I supose the moral of the story is don't can MPLAB all that much, it is
free, you should see what some of the killobucks by it from bend over into
the customer barrel stuff does.

So what is the comparable price by the time you add an eeprom chip, or do you
not require that in your project?

Greetings one & all
Hi Dennis
With respect to your enquiry about the Hitachi H8. I've used the IAR C
Compiler and can't complain at all. The link script can be a bit tricky but
otherwise it worls well.
Regards
Vince
