'[OT] ok ok I give up. Where is it?'

I give up. After 3 hours searching the Internet I was not able to find a
single bit of information about the Nintendo 64 interface connectors and
cables... Or I am getting old and dumb, or very few people dedicated
time to open up this information and allow several new devices and
gadgets to be interfaced to the N64 console.  What about a different
joystick? what about something else? PIC units are here to produce
several interface devices, so why not? The question is:  Where is it?

There's a link to the Hardware Handbook on my page :

Oh, of course, there's ALWAYS a middle man -- "you have to go through my
page" -- <G> I'm kidding. I thank you kindly for the link Tjaart. I've been
looking for info on N64's interface, etc., so I need to thank Wagner also ...
Thank you Wagner.

Thanks again,

Hmmm... I didn't see any N64 joystick info in the Hardware Book... maybe
I was looking in the wrong sections (but I did try a few!).

Anyway, I did a project with the N64 a while back... the 3 pins on the
joystick are GND, Vdd and DATA. DATA is a bidirectional line. The
signals on the DATA line are pulse-width modulated, where each bit is
one of the following:

0111    0001
___       _
_       ___

The bitrate is around 250Kbit/sec. I didn't figure out the whole
protocol, just enough to fake the presence of a controller pak, and
interface to a PC parallel port using a 16F84. Faking a controller is
much easier though. The N64 sends a request, and the joystick responds
with a 32-bit value - 8 bits each for X/Y, and 16 button bits (2
unused).

Hope this is of interest.

Cheers,
Ben

Sorry - I figured it would be there (I didn't look).
There is also a link to file formats (Wotsit) that I use
from time to time.

I am thinking of re-organising the table with the silicon vendors.
