hi group!

OK...this is like way OT but wondering (my brother just got an iPOD that does video) if anyone has one, and is it possible to feed LIVE video into it....to use as a small monitor.  I've done lots of google searches and can't find any real reference other than downloading video or podcasts.

I don't think so, there is no analog video input or digitiser on board to support.  It's the same idea as playing DivX video on a PDA.

You can buy small (4-7") screen monitors with composite input etc. on ebay reasonably cheaply.

I'm fairly certain the iPod Video doesn't have any method of getting
video onto it other than loading it onto the internal hard drive. The
only way to do that is to have it connected to a computer, and when
it's connected to a computer, you can't simultaneously operate the
unit.

I got one of this.

<http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HAMI-8-TFT-Car-LCD-XVGA-VGA-AV-MONITOR-w-TV-for-PC-DVD_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38650QQitemZ8038685735QQrdZ1>

If the link can't go through search for "Hami", I got mine about
US117.00 .  Great for field work, I don't really need the TV tuner.

For those who won't need a tv turner but a mere monitor with composite
or s-video in, buying a PsOne LCD on eBay (and fitting it into a nice
box) is IMHO the best deal. You could buy it for a few bucks, and as
the PS1 connector have s-video and composite, few cables and
connectors are required, no logic, no IC's. It only needs a +7.5V,3A
source (and a +5V reference to be turned on -the lm7805 works great
for me-). There are NTSC and PAL flavours, pick the one that suits
your system :)

P.S.- There are lots of mods in the Internet, just google for "psone
tft modding" or something

Most portable dvd players (which are starting to get relatively
inexpensive) can handle external video in.  I pulled one out of
a dumpster recently that seems to work fine as a monitor, though
the DVD player is questionable and the batteries are missing.

Old camcorders are another possibility.
