Seemed unreasonable high to me too, so I googled for "disposable diapers
landfills"; lot's of discussion on this subject, it seems, and no need to
stay with hear-say numbers :) This is one of the results: "Ohio State
University Extension Fact Sheeet"
"The average child uses over 5,000 diapers during the 30 month period
before toilet training, contributing to a total of over 16 billion diapers
or 2.7 million tons of single use diapers requiring disposal each year (1).
Disposable diapers account for an /estimated 1.5 to 2.0 percent/ of
municipal solid waste, contributing to the existing problem of landfill
availability and escalating cost of solid waste management (1,2)."
Even though that's about weight only, I can't imagine that the volume
number goes up to 50%. Properly used diapers aren't /that/ lightweight...

|seems unreasonable to me as well, and i typed it! that's what happens
when i'm tired. if i hadn't been tired, i would have processed the
"tag" i had on that in my memory, and realized the source was labeled
"bs/stupid" and not added that piece of garbage to yet more minds. sorry for the mental trash! i hate to see perfectly good brain cells
being wasted remembering BS, i usually do a better job of not spreading
the trash around. i normally try fairly hard to avoid getting trash in
the brain (i.e. i don't read books by brain dead politicians, i don't
watch daytime tv, i don't watch the news after they are done spending 5
minutes on the semi-real news and go to the filler/brain rot material).
unfortunately, that bit of trash came from a former employer, a real
idiot, and the only person i've ever had to get a restraining order
against (after i left the job, and told him explicitly not to ever
contact me, let alone come over to my apartment, harass me, try to get
in the back door, and then try to keep me from leaving my apartment! yeah, the guy was a loon, part of why i left. he was also an untreated
manic/depressive, things had been going good but the business was
starting to fall apart, i was smart enough to not want to be their when
he did!). of course, i normally also try to avoid working for such
unstable individuals, and he is indeed fortunate i did not own a firearm
at the time, or i would have had no difficulty wounding him (i do own
one now, and certainly hope i never need it for self defense, but i love
shooting in general). that incident was many years ago, in another
state, and i suspect he's managed to get himself back in prison by now
(another thing to avoid, generally).
