Be carefull when blowng things up, some chips etc contain poisons and toxins
and you can blow the top of an led with quite some force (beleve me!).
As for rf equipment you can cook bits of you!

Take care,

Andy

You're dead right there - I managed to (god knows how) blow the top of a 5mm
ultrabright through the plaster of my cieling, (i noticed the brown marks to
each side  - lol) there was prob. about 2 ish amps going through it after a
big power stepper... (dont ask me why). Ickle transistors are fun too - just
across an unregulated 5v 1A you can get a really good bang and a lot of
damage to surroundings

What if I had been looking down at the LED at the time???? <shuddder>

Heh, now THAT's a story. I remember a while back, a friend and I were
"modifying" a Whisper 2000... We call it flying capicitors. I've also
really blown a transistor good, man those things stink!

Hey, that was how they invented the laser diode... A VERY brief burst of
radiation is emitted just before it goes kablooey, so they dunked it in
liquid nitrogen or another very cold substance, and voila, a laser diode.
Of course that's making a long story very short I'm sure.....

A hole in the cieling?? that reminded me of a similar incedent but with my
rifle- should have unloaded it b4 cleaning!! right past my nose!!

Once, I exceeded the base-emmitter voltage of a 2N2222 type (TO-92)
transistor by quite a bit (oops!).  The everything in front of the die
was blown off, leaving only three leads and a small part of the plastic
case sticking out of the breadboard.  Probably not dangerous, but still
quite impressive.

Im impressed!, well done...

However, you really havent seen anything until you've connected a 47,000 uF
electrolytic the wrong way round to a 50V DC source.
November the 5th has nothing on that.

I see that the "Electrolytic capacitor fun" thread has started again!

Nothing much ... Your eye is much to soft to damage the LED further  ;-)
