Joe, definitely on this planet there are some veeery rested minds.
Should do something instead of thinking too hard, maybe digging some
flowers in the garden? Where do you found those ? BTW, my favourite is
number 4.

I was actually following up on

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/060601_big_crater.html

"The new-found crater is more than twice the size of the Chicxulub
crater in the Yucatan peninsula, which marks the impact that may have
ultimately killed the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. The Chicxulub
space rock is thought to have been 6 miles wide, while the Wilkes
Land meteor could have been up to 30 miles wide"

(which is something like Method 3 of the Top 10), and got side-
tracked. As you do

I like the Top 10 droll humour - You will need: Earthmoving equipment

Method 2 would be an interesting challenge for a wet Sunday

I like that page, but one thing I'd like to see added to it is the amount
of energy it would take to "blow up" a planet a la Darth Vader.

I did a little math on it, once, and IIRC, modelling it as accelerating the
entire mass of the planet to LEO, it would require more energy than
the sun has delivered over its lifetime.  I think I flubbed a decimal point,
though, at least once.  Anyone have any inputs on that?

I think it would be MORE accurate to model it as accelerating the mass
to escape velocity, but you'd have to integrate to account for the
decrease in mass at the center and the gravitational pull of the mass that
has already been slung away, and I'm just not up to that math right yet.

Mike H.

PS, an aside- has this hit the PICList yet?

I think they do essentially that in number 7...
