Anyone know where to go to find out the home countries of
various URL suffixes that keep popping up on piclist ????
- like .AK [arkansas??], .PH [philadephia??], etc.
- seriously - after the countries.

Boy, that's a mouthfull I never would have tumbled to on my own.
I made this a thread, rather than just looked it up myself, because
piclist is international, and I thought others might be interested
too. But using you lead, I found:

AR is Arkansas
You're on your own for the others :-)

I hope you appreciate that everyone outside the US is probably
having a good laugh at this.
It typifies how we see that Americans see the world. They don't.
The "world" is bounded by Canada and Mexico. Outside of that is Mars,
Venus, Jupiter, England, Australia and some other places.
We look forward to seeing the Arkansas national flag at the Sydney
Olympics. The where, you ask ?
:-)

I've traveled a lot [abroad, that is]. I know what makes the
world laugh. And we **have** heard of Sydney in the US - it's
.SY, right?

Maybe its time another extension was added...
Signifying what planet the address is from.
I think Sydney would qualify as "off world".

Sydney isn't .SY because Sydney is on Saturn (.SA).
Do you want me to tell you what is on Uranus? ;-)

In New Zealand there are two locations.
The one that counts is "Auckland".
All the rest is "South of the Bombay Hills"
There have been reported to be areas North of Auckland but this has yet to
be confirmed.

Ah, now I understand. All those *.au domain names are in Auckland.

Go to http://www.isoc.org. the codes are usually the ISO country codes
of the countries (same as used on car stickers for example).
