'[OT] Threads, mail clients and netiquette'

I think that people who read a mailing list should keep a reasonable backlog of
messages for reference or use a threaded client that does that by itself. Flames
due to quoting or not quoting are not ok imho, especially when a posting
directly and clearly refers to the subject line.

Yucc. Not gonna happen.

You can't tell people what clients to use.

But the point is the subject line by itself provides little context,
especially about details. Also when you make multiple response points, it
is not always clear what original points they are in response to. Context
matters. Part of making a statement is making sure the context of the
statement is understood. You failed to do that.

And neither can you tell people how to structure their messages.
You also have the choice whether to reply to a thread, or not.
In most cases I would say it is better not to reply rather than hassle
people about line lengths, quoting, etc.
You can justify it by saying to yourself that no amount of advice will
help. Best to ignore.
Best regards,
Bob
