Please trim off most old message material as per recognised and much
discussed quoting standards unless there is good reason not to,  ...

Consider it an exercise in good standards that will carry over into
other areas (where it also is often enough not done well).

An ex-colleague of mine once kept slowing down until he was
stationary. Tailgater was so close at this point he couldn't pull
round to overtake :) Tailgator driving a Porsche, ex-colleague does
rallies (doubtless a far faster driver than the tailgator if he wasn't
sticking to a speed limit).

Reminds me of a lady that drove into the back of me whilst in slow
moving queuing traffic at a round about.

She said "Im so unlucky, this keeps happening to me"...

Not sure luck has anything to do with driving into the back of a stationary car.

I tailgate just for fun sometimes. I also like to cut people off on a
regular basis. Also what's cool is cutting someone off and slamming on the
brakes

So you're the one they are all grumbling about then :-)
I must say I occasionally indulge myself with a bit of "passive" road rage...
My general tack is to feign ignorance, simple but effective - it drives the highly strung motorists nuts.
For instance, if someone is shaking their fist at you (common round here for minor infringements) I squint a bit (like I should be wearing glasses) and *wave* back (like it might be someone I know).
This provokes even more vigorous fist shaking and mouthing of obscenities. I probably got the idea(s) from one of Stephen Potter's books (Gamesmanship, etc)
Great fun.. :-)

Haha! I be one dem people too.

I have a similar vehicle. A real one. None of those jap knockoffs. With
solid bumper. I usually get the right of way on single lane roads.

If I get hooted whilst riding my bike I also tend to give a friendly
wave back in case it's somebody I know :) In fact this has turned out
to be a very good tactic, given that more often than not I find it's
either somebody being friendly and helpful, or is actually somebody I
know (I have to admit to tooting as I overtake cyclists I know).

The most fun I had were the three funerals I went to of friends killed
by other drivers. Especially my best friend Chris, mown down at 16
on the pavement by a speeder. He was in ICU for a week. Man, we
had some laughs seeing him all bashed up like that

You know, I thought I'd be on this list forever

Maybe not

I'm assuming V G is trolling. Not that it really makes it any more
funny. I assume he'll be along shortly to apologise for his lack of
taste.

My sympathies for your experiences. No death is ever nice - far more
happen on the road than should if drivers had sensible attitudes.

Why would I apologize? And what lack of taste?

At most, I would be understanding about the death of his friends...

But I certainly didn't do anything wrong

You could just stop digging. Or maybe engage brain before driving (or
before posting if you're trolling) if you really think that statement
is true.

What are you referring to exactly? Digging what? And what statement
specifically

Not the one when you hear your friend's legs break and see him
go head first into a pole. Then watch the life drain out of him in
a hospital bed

I'll never forgive the **** who thought it was 'cool fun' to throw
his car around a corner. That could have been me a few years
later. Some drunken woman who lost control speeding around a
corner in the wet, hit my motorbike just behind my leg and then
sideswiped the queue of cars behind me

I just don't understand, really really really don't understand, how
mis-using two tons of speeding metal is in any way funn

"When in a hole stop digging". The statement I quoted.

You WERE lucky.  She could have hit your leg, driving the head of you femur through your hip.  You could have hit the pavement, shattering your kneecap and breaking your Tib/fib.  You could have slid 82 feet down the road, taking all the skin and a lot of flesh off of your leg from the knee to the Tib/fib break.  You could have spent 3 months on your back, with stainless steel screws through your bones with weights hanging from them.  Wet to dry dressings to remove the mud and leaves and tar from the exposed flesh and bones.  Shock blocks and fracture pans.  Catheters and IVs.

Yes, I was. As well as the injuries you describe, it might have
been followed up by a lengthy fall. I was on the rail side of an
overpass (Symonds St) with a very long drop down on to the
motorway

It took several policemen to restrain her. She got two years
and was to be booted back to Australia. Good riddance

That's why I would not let human driving -- only on the race track. Human is
just not designed to be rational but emotional. Self driving vehicles are
the next step, we just do not know yet when and how to make it safe enough,
and probably how to make the transition.

Mere mortals
